A Lake View from Genoa

2 May 2013

If you have ever wanted to tackle a smaller project than a full-scale dolls' house, you'll know that you are well on the way if you can pick up an idea and modify to meet your needs.

Dolls House Emporium customer Sabrina Pagano, from Genoa, in Italy, liked the look of Lake View and spotted the potential of using the popular garden room as a property in its own right.

Here's her take on the popular theme. See if you can spot the many other Dolls House Emporium goodies she's added to the display.

Thank you for sharing, Sabrina!

Dolls’ Houses through the ages - The Modern Age

22 March 2011

After the Second World War and the austerity and rationing of the 1950s, the 1960s brought a new sense of optimism, experimentalism and colour.  Lots of colour.  Gone was the obligatory brown of furniture.  Now sleek designs and new materials like plastic introduced new looks and designers like Mary Quant and Biba brought new vibrancy and shorter hemlines to street fashion.  London became the hub of the Swinging Sixties and the soundtrack of the times was created by bands like the Beatles and the Stones.   The Seventies, sometimes unkindly characterised as the decade that fashion forgot, built on the legacy of the Sixties and Terence Conran’s Habitat introduced contemporary design into the British home.

Our own collection contains a number of contemporary designs such as Lake View and bringing us right up to date is the Ocean Drive house embracing the cutting edge of 21st century living.

So what age best exemplifies the art of the dolls’ house?  You’ll have your own favourite era and whether your taste leans towards traditional or contemporary, you’ll find something to match within our collection.  It’s also worth checking out the Collectors’ blog to see examples of projects fellow enthusiasts have undertaken and you are always welcome to share your own work and ideas with the rest of us.
