Miniature Dickensian Christmas display to visit!

2 December 2012

Six beautiful miniature scenes from A Christmas Carol have gone on show.

Dolls’ house modeller Anne Thomas, from Cumbria, has lent the Cumbrian outlet some of her work in the run-up to Christmas.

Her scenes include Marley's Ghost, the Ghosts of Christmases past, present and future, and scene-stealers from the famous novel.

In life I was your partner Jacob Marley (In life I was your partner Jacob Marley)

Anne describes herself as a "keen amateur" with a great love for all things Victorian - and especially Dickens' A Christmas Carol.

...and he said "Bah Humbug" (...and he said "Bah Humbug")

The idea for this set of themes room displays started out as just one - and grew from there.

A Christmas Carol - scene by mini-scene!

10 April 2012

Good news today for keen followers of our old literary friend, Charles Dickens.

Dolls’ house modeller Anne Thomas, from Cumbria, has sent us some more images of her intricate work, this time detailing six scenes from A Christmas Carol.

The scenes - including Marley's Ghost, below - brought to vivid life include the Ghosts of Christmases past, present and future, and other key moments from the age-old favourite.

She says: "I am a keen amateur with a great love for all things Victorian and especially Charles Dickens' Christmas Carol.

"I have modelled in all scales from railway modelling, 3mm to 7mm, and of course my dolls' houses 1/12th scale - making as much as possible myself, even furniture and fireplaces.

"The idea of the room boxes started out as just one box and grew from there. I started last year before I knew about Dickens' anniversary in 2012.

"I am extremely pleased with all six scenes; they take a while to create."

She told us previously: “The idea of the room boxes started out as just one box and grew from there.

Ann has loved a Christmas Carol since she was ten years old, and told us previously: "I feel I have an affinity with Dickens in that whilst researching my Usher Family History I found that my Great, Great Grandfather James Usher, who owned the Hare & Hounds Inn at Pickwick, near Corsham in Wiltshire, was there at the time of one of Charles Dickens’ visits.

“That gives me a great feeling that my ancestor was host to Dickens himself.”
