Blogs of Inspiration

6 October 2014

There are lots and lots of Miniatures and Dolls' House Blogs around, covering the full range of dolls' houses, periods, fantasies and styles. We often come across some weird and wacky ones, some that we can't always share and we're sure there are many more that we have yet to stumble on.

Here's some of the recent finds -

Tara's work includes a stunning selection of Tim Burton and Harry Potter inspired pieces and is perfect for Halloween! Lots of great inspiration if you're struggling and if you're short on time, she has an Etsy shop too!

Casey covers a wealth of miniature projects and crafting ideas. Her workroom and supplies are a dedication to craft rooms everywhere, it makes mine seem puny in comparison.

And then there is the AIM blog -

Artisan's in Miniature feature some of the highest quality of miniature work and the great news is it's all for sale!

Please let us know your favourite blogs in the comments below, we love keeping track of the miniature world through these inspirational works.

Life-sized dolls' house is burned to the ground

19 April 2013

Remember the life-sized dolls' house in Canada that we shared previously?

The artist, Heather Benning, decided to burn it to the ground after she felt it had become unsafe.

Yet even the burning was an artistic event: she is now preparing an exhibition titled “The Death of the Dollhouse".

Here's our original item on her creation: Life-sized doll house: see it on video

But if you want to see what she did to it earlier this month, tap through to this link at Neatorama.

It's a great shame to see it go, but it was only a temporary installation.

The most unusual place to find a dolls’ house

10 May 2012

You wouldn’t be surprised to find a dolls’ house in a museum or a charity shop, perhaps even a dusty attic or, heaven forbid, a rubbish skip.

But surely the last place you would expect to find one would be in a cemetery.

In Connersville, Indiana, visitors are often surprised to discover an ornate Victorian dolls’ house among the more traditional headstones.

It marks the grave of Vivian May Allison who tragically died at the age of five in 1899 and was built by the little girl’s parents.

Apparently Vivian May had always wanted a dolls’ house and the grieving parents filled it with their daughter’s favourite dolls and toys.

It is known locally as ‘the little house that heartache built' and according to Donna Scott, part of a volunteer team restoring the house, “Some [people] would swear the poor little girl haunts the house.”

However, speaking to the local newspaper, the Indy Star, Donna stresses that the little girl’s soul is at rest, leaving the house as a wonderful commemoration of her all too short life.

Do you know of any unusual places where a dolls’ house is to be found?  If so, please share it with the rest of DHE community.  We always love to hear from you.

Top customer service award for The Dolls House Emporium!

29 March 2012

The Dolls House Emporium has had its superb customer service recognised by winning the top honour at the prestigious ECMOD Direct Commerce Awards.
We picked up the Outstanding Customer Relationship Management & Customer Service category for the sixth time - and for the second year in a row.
Managing director Jackie Lee said: “We pride ourselves on delivering exceptional customer service so it's especially nice to have this recognised.
"We already know from customer comments and feedback how they value what we do and appreciate the efforts we make.
"Winning this award again last year was thrilling but to retain it shows that we continue to have our customers' interests at the centre of what we do.
"I'd like to take this opportunity to thank our customers for their continuing support - no one knows the market like they do and they judge us every day!"
ECMOD - the voice and organising body for the multi-channel marketing industry, newly-termed “omnichannel industry” - run the annual Direct Commerce Awards to recognise business excellence for organisations engaged in direct-to-customer retailing.
Judging is carried out by an independent panel of acknowledged experts in the sector across traditional and newly emerging channels.
The Dolls House Emporium was judged on a range of aspects of its business, including how all colleagues in the company embrace every aspect of customer service, from product design right through to fulfilling the order.
Also highlighted was the multi-channel approach through the main website and the busy forum, blog, facebook and twitter presence, as well as other ways in which the company welcomes feedback and responds to it. Judges saw Dolls House Emporium catalogues, which are published in different versions for trade or retail customers, as well as in different languages and currencies for different parts of the world. They were also shown the excellent Feefo reviews and ratings, given by customers themselves.
The winners for each category were revealed at the ECMOD Direct Commerce Awards gala evening at the Lancaster London Hotel.
