Making more room in your miniature dolls' house

6 May 2013

Have you ever wished your dolls’ house had an extra room to decorate?

Why not introduce a garden area? With versatility offering everything from horticulture to architecture, you can create extra space for inspiration in an instant!

One popular method is to change your setting when summer turns to winter, to reflect the seasons in your full-scale world.

With a greenhouse, conservatory or pergola feature the world’s your oyster – and it’s so much easier than the real thing!

And there’s a wonderful collection of flowers and foliage to add from The Garden Centre at The Dolls House Emporium.

You may wish to choose a theme for your greenery, or recreate a favourite garden you have seen in real life.

There’s no need to have your planting in neat rows – nature’s not tidy and it could give you a chance to be really creative, incorporating some items from everyday life, to make the garden look well-loved and well-used by its mini occupants!

Even if it’s a general sprucing up of your main property – we’ve a dozen or so window box ideas to get you started!

Or a low-maintenance patio terrace to add more furniture and décor for city living.

Add fruit, vegetables, old wellington boots and some garden tools for your rural project!

Try railings, balustrades or a gate for a more formal look or simply use a property extension for that extra space to create a music room or sun room.

Getting out in the garden’s just one tradition for May. Another is the age-old custom of dancing around the Maypole!

The tradition gathered pace in the Middle Ages and is still the focus of many celebrations even today. Schoolchildren weave in and out according to different routines to create intricate patterns on the pole.

23 October 2012

Have you seen our range of beautiful craft items?

They're great for dolls’ houses but because they're miniatures they are also perfect as card toppers!

You might know someone who’d appreciate this pink handbag (4853), six white tulips (4798), a lucky horseshoe (4010) or five seashells (5525).

A set of windmills would be an individual addition to a project (5526).

From the dolls’ house to the miniature garden

6 February 2012

Our love of miniatures isn’t confined to dolls’ houses and we were fascinated to discover that people also enjoy gardening in miniature.

Terrarium gardening is basically growing plants in a glass jar and it first became popular back in Victorian times and came back into vogue in the 1970s.

Now it’s enjoying another revival and just as dolls’ house enthusiasts create their own miniature worlds in house form, terrarium gardeners do the same in glass jars.

If you fancy creating a Lilliputian landscape of your own, it’s worth checking out the availability of suppliers and workshops in your area.

Or perhaps the thought of all those miniature plants has given you some ideas for your dolls’ house – a mini-cyclamen or poinsettia for your living room or a miniature palm for a hallway.

Stunning, Stately and Sumptuous!

diningFor a real treat, why not dress your dolls' house dining room for a stately dinner?  Perhaps you have the King and Queen coming to dine and need the butler to polish the best silver ware? Or maybe you prefer gold cutlery? Whichever you prefer, don't forget the candlesticks to match and the fine china, complete with the cruet set.  Your Cook will whip up something fantastic in the kitchen, perhap you've chosen a strawberry pie for dessert? The Gardener can provide fresh flowers for the lady of the house to turn into a delightful minature centre piece and the table will be set.

Don't forget to dress your dolls in their finery too, wouldn't you hate to be caught with the same dress as someone else at the  state dinner?

All the little touches will help to create a very sumptuous dining experience and who knows maybe the Royals will return?
